Why is GSM important in clothing?

GSM (grams per square meter) defines the weight and thickness of a fabric. A higher GSM fabric feels heavier, sturdier, and more premium. For example, regular fast-fashion tees are usually 160–180 GSM, which are thin and wear out quickly. Terry-knit fabric is thicker and softer than standard jersey fabrics. It has a luxurious hand-feel, slightly textured surface, and is more absorbent, making it ideal for all-day wear. Why do we use a cotton-polyester blend instead of 100% cotton?
